About Us

Our Story & Mission

How a student study group became a structured financial education initiative.

Our Purpose

Mission Statement

To democratize financial education through structured learning, peer mentorship, and practitioner guidance—emphasizing understanding over action, and responsibility over speculation.

How It Started

Origin Story

hedgerledge began in 2023 when a group of university students realized that despite their academic achievements, they felt unprepared to make basic financial decisions. The resources available were either too basic, too advanced, too focused on selling something, or simply overwhelming in their disorganization. We started as a small study group, developing materials and teaching each other. What worked, we kept. What didn't, we improved. The name "Charlie" comes from the NATO phonetic alphabet—C for curriculum, community, and careful learning. As our approach proved effective, others wanted to join. That study group became hedgerledge.

What We Believe

Our Values & Principles

Education Over Action

We prioritize deep understanding. We would rather you truly understand one concept than superficially know ten. This means sometimes slowing down, asking more questions, and resisting the urge to jump into decisions before you are ready.

Honesty Over Hype

Financial markets are complex and uncertain. We do not pretend otherwise. We discuss risk candidly, acknowledge what we don't know, and never promise outcomes we cannot guarantee. If something sounds too good to be true, we will tell you why.

Accessibility Over Exclusivity

Financial literacy should not be a privilege. We work to keep our programs accessible, offer need-based pricing, and design curriculum that does not assume prior knowledge or connections.

Community Over Competition

Learning is more effective together. We foster an environment where questions are encouraged, mistakes are learning opportunities, and peers support each other's growth.

Responsibility Over Returns

We measure success not by returns generated but by understanding developed. A student who learns to avoid a bad decision has succeeded as much as one who makes a good one.

Organization

How We Operate

Our student-led structure and mentorship model.

hedgerledge operates as a student-led organization with faculty advisory support. Our curriculum is developed collaboratively, reviewed by practitioners, and continuously improved based on feedback. Peer mentors are trained program graduates. Practitioner mentors are volunteers from finance, accounting, and related fields who believe in our mission. We maintain independence from any financial product or service provider.

Looking Ahead

Our Vision

We envision a future where financial literacy is part of every student's education—not as an afterthought, but as a fundamental skill for navigating modern life. hedgerledge aims to be a model for how peer education and mentorship can fill gaps in traditional curricula, and eventually to expand our reach to more students, more institutions, and more communities.
